Every year at this time, I seem to get so excited about all of my family and children’s photo sessions we do here at the studio. I’m just in love with the soft fall lighting, and warm colours all around. I know many of my clients aim to have their family sessions done in October when the colours are beautiful on the trees. But it’s after they fall that the colours are perfect, and it’s my favourite background to shoot against. The way the browns reflect on any skin tone, just look simply magical. Somehow, even Black and white photographs looks warm. LOVE IT!!!

Most often I photographed families here at the studio, or at an outdoor location. But on occasion we’re asked to go to a clients home. When there are young children involved in the session, sometimes it’s easier on them to be in their own environment. So, we certainly don’t mind setting up on site with some notice.

Yesterday was one of those days. And this family had quite a large home to work with. We did a variation of casual shots, and a bit more dressier type shots. As well, we got shots outside, inside, and lots of combinations of groups. Here are couple shots I loved of the kids on their own towards the end of the session…….. when we were all getting a bit sleepy.

Vicki is a local business owner that came to me a year ago to do headshots for her website. She was so easy to work with, and let me be as creative as I wanted to be. So I was really excited when she contacted me in the summer to book a fall belly session. Vicki, her husband, and their dog came in to be part of the morning. We also had Kerry Archer, a wonderful local make up artist, come in to do hair and make up for the shoot.

Recently i had the opportunity to photograph the Facchin family. It’s always wonderful to catch up with past clients and learn about the growth of their family. On July 25th 2009, I photographed Jenny and Mark’s wedding at Blue Mountain Village. They were a fantastic couple to work with, always laughing and having a great time. Strangely, their wedding took place during one of the busiest weekends that happens at Blue Mountain every year. Their wedding took place over the Elvis Fest weekend, which just added to the excitement of the weekend.

When i got the call from Jenny, i was more than excited to hear she wanted to come in for a family session with their new addition, Luca! Luca was full of laughter and smiles, which was obviously a tribute to Mark and Jenny’s relationship.

Veronica and Eric actually came in last year before i had my blog up and running. Eric is the co-owner of Salon ID, located downtown Barrie. And we had worked together on multiple shoots through the years prior. So when they found out Veronica was expecting, they knew they wanted to always remember how absolutely beautiful she looked! And what better way then through a maternity session. They also asked if they could bring along their “first born”: their dog. And of course, we said yes… in fact we encouraged it.

The Nicholls Family came in to have an updated Portrait taken of themselves. Their son Nolen was a highlight for me. Such a boys boy, full of energy and laughter. And you could see in their parents face how proud and amazed they were by him. Family sessions are fun, and should be a great experience to look back on and cherish.

Right Before Christmas I had the opportunity to photograph the Hook Family. They had so much love and energy that it was impossible to get a bad picture of them. This was shot at the studio (inside and outside in the field). When we do Studio shoots it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s going to be posed and stiff. We want personality to shine thru as well.

I love photographing belly shots, and a little while back I had the opportunity to photograph the Archer family and help them celebrate their fourth child coming into this world. You can see the love and excitement their children have to meet their new little brother. And even though at this stage of a women’s pregnancy we feel exhausted, Kerry shines!
